Regenerating Leeds and preserving the past
לפני 3 שניםLeeds has undergone extensive regeneration over the past few years. This includes construction of former First Direct Arena to the continued development of the city centre’s South Bank area. The city is set for further growth with an extra government cash boost for regeneration projects in the centre.
South Bank Leeds is an ongoing project aiming to double the size of the city centre by redeveloping ex-industrial areas south of the River Aire. Some of the locations incorporated in the South Bank regeneration include Wortley, Holbeck and Armley. Being home to 30 listed buildings and their maintenance and renovation, plays a key part of the wider scheme.
Maintaining Leeds’s history through regeneration
One of Leeds’s listed buildings, Cliff House in Wortley, forms the centre of our Cliff Oaks development. The mansion house has been empty since 1998 when it closed as a community school. The Grade II listed building, destroyed by fire in 2017, is now being given a new lease of life.
Phase one, which is complete and available to reserve now, features seven individual townhouses adjacent to Cliff House, all within a gated community. In addition, phase two of our development will see Cliff House renovated into eight luxury apartments, including a four-bedroom penthouse. Many original features will be retained, keeping one of Leeds’s ‘heritage at risk’ houses a focal point of the community.
Wortley itself is already a popular residential area, thanks to the local amenities, distance to town and three parks known as Wortley Recreation Ground, Cliffe Park and Western Flatts Park, which Cliff Oaks overlooks.
An area on the up
Continued regeneration work means Wortley, South Bank and its neighbouring communities are set to boom in popularity among home owners and new home buyers.
Extensive work has already taken place throughout the rest of the city and a recent £18 million government grant will see the inner city transformed even further. A total of £8.6m will be spent to transform road space in the South Bank of Leeds into new green space, with further investment into both local and national public transport links.
The South Bank Leeds Regeneration Framework Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) claims the regeneration of the city and as a result create 8,000 new homes and 35,000 new jobs. This in an effort to make Leeds even more of a standout UK city.
The part of the city centre with the most development is already a particular hotspot for creative and digital businesses. It has also been a long-standing home to Asda’s headquarters and Sky offices.
